Having completed a career of over 30 years with Big 4, over 20 years’ experience as a tax partner, Rod has assisted Australian and international clients navigate the complexities of taxation, business, finance and government policy to successfully grow and expand.
Rod specialises in transactions, funding, projects, international taxation, wealth, China, energy & natural resources, renewables and tech startups.
Having completed a career of over 30 years with Big 4, over 20 years’ experience as a tax partner, Rod has assisted Australian and international clients navigate the complexities of taxation, business, finance and government policy to successfully grow and expand.

Rod’s uses his tax advisory skills to solve the needs of clients across a broad range of industry sectors including energy, mining, utilities, renewables, infrastructure, property, agriculture, start-ups, private equity, industrial markets, transport, education, healthcare, family businesses and wealth creation.
He has helped companies expand globally, raise funds and grow their business organically and through successful M&A activity. As lead tax adviser on some of Australia’s largest transactions, Rod has experience with takeovers, mergers, IPOs, divestments, joint ventures, capital raisings and complex funding arrangements.
With specialist experiences in climate change issues, emissions trading and renewable energy, Rod has advised on the structuring and development of many windfarm, solar and hydro projects. He has contributing to tax policy reforms and spoken on tax and sustainability at global seminars in Australia, China, Brazil and Singapore.
Rod advises Chinese companies how to successfully invest in Australia. Rod supports closer business relations between Australia and China, having provided briefings to State Owned Enterprises (SOEs), the China Tax authorities (SAT), the Chinese Consulate and Government officials in Beijing. He has made submissions to the Australian Treasury on enhancements to the Australia China Double Tax Agreement.
Rod has assisted companies and industries consult with Government on new policy including the Minerals Resource Rent Tax and the Carbon Tax. He appeared before the Senate Economics Committee to make submissions on tax policy reforms.
Qualifications
Rod is a Fellow of Chartered Accountant Australia and New Zealand, a Solicitor of the New South Wales Supreme Court, a Chartered Tax Adviser of the Tax Institute and a registered Tax Agent. He has a Bachelor of Economics and Master of Laws (Hons) from the University of Sydney.
What I do when not in suit
I mentor students as part of the University of Sydney (USYD) Business School alumni mentor program.
I mentor startup teams in the USYD Genesis startup program.
In my spare time, as a singer songwriter, I am recording an album of my own songs under the working title Triple Denim available on Soundcloud under my stage name, Tex Henderson.
